The five basic strokes are effleurage (light touch), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (compression) and vibration. TMJ Massage

specialized therapuetic Technique for the Jaw

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), are usually the result of inflamed and painful chewing muscles around your jaw. For some, it’s a once-in-a-while issue that can come from too much chewing, like indulging in a piece of gum all afternoon. For others, however, TMJ disorder can be a chronic issue that results in constant pain and discomfort.

The cause for this chronic condition is relatively subjective, but may be linked to stress fractures, an imperfect bite, tooth grinding or tooth clenching related to stress. Luckily, a TMJ massage can act as an effective, non-medicinal way to deal with TMJ pain. For jaw pain, the targeted muscle is called the maseter muscle. It is the muscle that you use primarily for chewing that is located on the sides of your face. When it is tight, from stress or injury, it can contribute to TMJ pain as well as the grinding of teeth. Releasing the tension in this muscle can be one of the remedies to help alleviate these problems.

Following the smudging is a 15 minute guided visualization to call upon your ancestors, your power animal, and receive blessings by calling in the directions of the Native American medicine wheel.
